2008 News

2008 was one of our toughest years and we are glad it's over.  Let's all look forward to a wonderful 2009 and take a peek at the awful year we had.

Glad 2008 is Over

  • 40 Days Of Rain
Yes, you read it right.  We had 40 straight days of rain throughout June and July.
  • Poor Crops
With that many days of cloud cover, and rain that lead to poor harvests.  We planted 25 acres of corn and we were only able to harvest about 8 - 10 acres, and we planted 17 acres of squash, gourds, and pumpkins, and only picked about 100 pieces.  Of those 100 pieces, about 20% rotted and had to be thrown away.  We should've had thousands of pieces.
  • Passing of Family & Friends
We had a few key friends and family pass away in 2008, ones that we loved and can still hear their laugh, or them calling out "I guess so", you will always be remembered.
  • Election Day
As the day drew nearer, we all sensed that this was going to be a historic election.  As a country we were either going to have our first female, Vice - President, or our first Afro American President.  We kept our 7 year old son up until 11:30 pm to see the first Afro - American President and it was truly memorable for all.
  • Companies Fail & Stock Market Crash
Fannie Mae, Freddy Mac, AIG, Wachovia, Tweeter, corporate bailouts, the list goes on, and we are held with our stocks, our savings, and our retirement accounts in shambles.
  • Dad's Surgery
After many years of hobbling around, Dad finally has his knees replaced.  He opts to have them both done... at the same time.  He was walking with a walker within 2 days, walking with 1 crutch within 2 weeks, driving after 3 1/2 weeks, and first bike ride during the 6th week.
  • Ice Storm & No Power
December brought about the Ice Storm of 2008 which lead to fallen trees and power outages that lasted almost 2 weeks in parts of NH.
  • Mom's Surgery
Mom finally got a diagnosis that made sense as to why both her arms were numbing or tingling and went in for surgery.  After 2 weeks she's up and about with her neck brace on occasionally and during drives in car.
